Amy Kargman

Amy Kargman was a UFT member for 50 years, first teaching third grade at PS 279 in Brooklyn, before becoming art coordinator that school. In 1984, she began working at Community School Board District 18 in the ASTRAL program. She developed project LOGO, which was an introduction to communities for young children. This program was chosen by Worldbook as a nationwide guide. Amy was president of West End Temple for four years, including during Hurricane Sandy. She did extensive traveling with her mother, who was also a teacher and UFT member. Amy was an accomplished artist in acrylics, watercolors, printmaking and ceramics.

She survived by her daughter, Lisa, who was a New York City principal and her son, Steven, and his wife Becky. She also had four grandchildren: Misha, Alex, Noah and Tresa. Judy and Marty Borell, and Richard Kargman and Eileen Slater were friends and relatives.
