Reading teacher Umilta Al-Uqdah is remembered for her “sweet spirit” and for always having “words of encouragement for students and colleagues.”

She taught for 20 years and retired from PS 103, a Satellite 3 school in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, in 2008.

Al-Uqdah, 75, died from cardiac arrest on Dec. 16, 2020. She was born in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.

Colleague Marilyn Sebro remembers her “as someone every young teacher would look to for guidance, and as warm and tenderhearted.”

Noting how Al-Uqdah had helped her through her grieving for the loss of her father, colleague Venes Whitney-Legall said, “To know her was to love her. Not many people would have taken the time, but she did. She touched so many lives.”

Al-Uqdah is survived by her husband, Saleem.
