Founding UFT member Irving Barash, 93, taught history and economics at Bayside HS in Queens for more than 30 years. He died of coronavirus on April 6.

Irving, of Riverdale, was a committed, smart, innovative and engaging teacher whose detailed knowledge and understanding of world history and economics was extraordinary. His ability to articulately explain history remained intact until his passing.

A voracious reader, Irving loved the theater and movies. He was also an avid traveler.

Irving was an eternal optimist, exhibiting great joy and curiosity that will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

  1. I had your dad as a teacher. He was a wonderful man full of knowledge and intellect. Sorry for your loss. He lived a full life and touched so many lives
    His memory will live on
